Various differences betwen TED 5000 and smart meter
« on: March 22, 2017, 09:16:24 AM »
I have been comparing the readings from my utility (via a smart meter on TOU) and my TED 5000. I have been averaging 10% less usage per day on the TED 5000. When I compare by the hour, the usage can vary by between 6% and 19%. There is no real pattern at this time, just seems to vary. For example, between 23:00 and 24:00, it varied almost 19%... no one is awake at that time and only the usual appliances are running. Any ideas why the differences vary so much?

Thanks

I have what sounds like a similar situation and setup to yours, and my TED (Pro, rather than 5000, though my 5000 did almost as well before I upgraded) readings were and are much closer to those of the utility meter. The most likely explanation is that your MTU to Gateway communication is marginal. Have you looked at the data reported on the TED's stats.htm page. The skip percentage should ideally be less than 10%. If it is more than 20%, you are going to lose accuracy (and the sort of hour to hour variation you are seeing would not be surprising).

Thanks for your input. Yes, I looked at my stats page and I have 103495 MTU Rec and 9 MTU Skp. I take it from these numbers that I do not have an issue with communication. Here is more that I have tried.

Verified that the CTs were properly closed and spaced apart. I will be checking each phase with my amp meter, hopefully, get an idea.

Here is some data to illustrate my issues, any feedback is appreciated.

Smart Meter / TED 5000
01 - 02 AM 0.4878 / 0.418 - 14.31% less than smart meter
02 - 03 AM 0.4494 / 0.392 - 12.77%
03 - 04 AM 0.4692 / 0.406 - 13.47%
04 - 05 AM 0.4596 / 0.384 - 16.45%
05 - 06 AM 0.4716 / 0.439 - 6.91%
06 - 07 AM 0.5388 / 0.500 - 7.20%
07 - 08 AM 0.9966 / 0.937 - 5.98%
