5000 Battery / Time
« on: June 09, 2012, 03:48:54 AM »
Is there a battery in the 5000 to keep the time?, mine no longer keeps it after power loss. Also
on the next version of firmware can you update the starting point and time for the unit to
something closer then 2000. It is a pain to go through all those months on the set time page
to get to 2012.

Thanks,

Ron

Yes your backup battery is bad, it is soldered on the board, some have replaced it successfully.
I manually change the year in the date box then pull up the calendar.
I would like to attempt the battery repair/get a replacement unit, but I hate the thought of starting over again with my data, for the 3rd time.

Thanks,

The nvram has been a joke from day one. From bogus data being stored to having to wipe it to get history working again, or install new firmware. Changing
a battery should have no affect on the history. If they are using battery powered storage then there is no hope :). At a minimum the web interface should
allow you to dump the history into a csv file and load it back giving you some sort of backup and option when it has to be wiped.

Great concept, needs work on execution.

The battery is a 2032. Here are pictures of what I did, it is not easy to get battery out, it is spot welded onto the tabs and you
could easily destroy one of the surface mount components. Attempt at your own risk or you may end up with a $200 brick.
Make sure you backup the settings. For some reason the first time I rebooted with the new battery it lost the system settings,
kept the history, utility and time. I reloaded the system from the backup xml file and wrote it to unit and next time I unplugged
it all came back as expected. Next time just open up, change battery, close.

I got the 2032 socket out of my Ted 1000. You can buy them online for a few bucks, just make sure you get one that will fit in 5000 case.

I'm sure you can find the battery with the tabs already attached on-line.  Probably end up paying more for shipping then the battery.

You can also buy battery holder at your local Radio Shack.
